I cannot say enough good about the theory of loving your children and finding ways other than yelling and spanking to teach and inforce proper behavior. However, I do not like his writing style and at times (dispite his statment "don't feel guilty") I feel his message of "if you don't do it my way you will destroy your children forever" a bit overpowering.That said, this book has truly changed my life and that of my 3 daughters as I have learned tools other than yelling and lecturing. It demonstrates tools that are actually effective and explanations as to why they are so.
I can not say enough for how grateful I am that this book came into my life.

I love this CD set so far and find the lessons invaluable for learning how to improve our relationship skills for parenting, marriage, or just about any kind of relationship. Thank you Dr. Baer and the wize men and wize women. You have touched on a very important aspect of life that needs our attention.
This book is so full of truth it could take a lifetime to adsorb it all. Dr Baer hits the nail on the head with every page.
OH! how I wish I would have parented knowing this stuff! There IS a manual for parenting...this is it!
This book has some tough truths in it & is hard to implement simply because it will make you focus on your behavior more than your children's. He repeats himself a lot at the beginning of the book & so many times I found myself saying "I understand the problem, just tell me how to fix it already?!" If you aren't someone who believes that love can fix things & believe the children should blindly respect & obey their parents, you'll find this hard to swallow. But I can tell you that if you will keep an open mind you can see the logic behind it (something my children's father is finally seeing). It has made a big difference in my interactions with my daughters. I understood a lot of the concepts prior to reading the book, but it was good to be reminded that kids, as frustrating as they can be, are acting out because they are lacking the unconditional love & attention they need to develop. Great book, just wish it repeated itself less & got to the point faster.
This book is awesome, every parent should read it. It will help you know how to really love your children and also how to let go of our past issues from childhood as you realize why you do things the way you do.
